One ... two ... three ... four ... five ... six. Count them! Six new students will be enrolling in college this January—five of them young women!

They include:

Precious: Clinical medicine at Silver Maple College of Education and Health Sciences

Rabecca: Journalism and public relations at Evelyn Hone University in Lusaka

Somba: Nursing at Zambezi College of Nursing

Chris: Computer science at Copperbelt University's School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences

Mercy C.: Long-distance teaching from Kobompo

Mercy: To be determined.

Congratulations to all of them! We are so proud.

Meantime, we have 9 other students already in college at various stages, studying nursing, computer science, teaching, agriculture, and more. This makes a whopping total of 15 college students!

Times remain challenging in Zambia, as inflation and drought continue to wreak havoc on the standard of living. Despite these hardships, we are seeing many children demonstrating extraordinary dedication to their studies. They recognize that attending college is not a given for most Zambian youth, and for those who do have the opportunity, education offers a vital path toward a better future. In these tough economic times, pursuing higher education is seen as a chance to build self-reliance and work toward realizing their dreams.

education.

Take Precious, for example. She was devastated when she initially failed her GCE exams, the crucial tests required for Grade 12 graduates to gain entry into college. Instead of giving up—and with the support of Rolanda, one of our board members—she rededicated herself to her studies over the past year, seeking the assistance of a tutor to master the subjects she had struggled with. She also stayed with one of her older LMO brothers Hannel, who provided her with additional moral support.

Her perseverance paid off—she successfully passed her exams and is now preparing to study clinical medicine, a rigorous and demanding field akin to that of a physician's assistant. Her journey is a testament to the power of resilience and the transformative potential of education.
